Matt Dionne
Screenwriter | Producer
Matt Dionne is an award-winning writer and producer based in Toronto, Canada.
His scripts primarily fall into the comedy and drama genres – his dramas tend to explore themes related to identity, social structures, and mental health through gritty realism, while his comedies often still deal with serious subject matter, but in a much more witty and sardonic way.
He’s received numerous accolades for his writing, including his short scripts, 10-11 In Progress, which won Best Drama Screenplay at the 2025 Asian Independent Film Festival, and the 2025 Caravan International Film Festival; UnMatched, which won Best Comedy Screenplay at the 2025 Niagara Canada International Film Festival; and Athletic Withdrawal, which won Best Concept in the 2023 Paperscreenplay screenwriting competition; as well as his pilot script, Redwood State, which was a quarterfinalist in the 2020 Screencraft Screenwriting Fellowship competition.
He’s produced several scripts he wrote or helped develop, including UnMatched, which was nominated for Best Comedy at the 2025 Anatolia International Film Festival; Athletic Withdrawal, which won Best Short Film at the 2024 Reels International Film Festival, and Best Drama at the 2023 Iconic Images Film Festival; Out of the Equation, which won the Bison’s Choice Award at the 2024 Bloomington Indiana Film Festival; and Each Other, which won Best Short Drama at the 2023 Onyko Film Awards.
He is a graduate of York University’s Screenwriting program, and the Toronto Film School’s Film Production program.
He’s also a member of the Ontario chapter of the Director’s Guild of Canada.
